Sustainability Report 2017

SINNACK- POWER 270 g/kWh AVERAGE GERMANY 471 g/kWh 31 30 12. RESOURCEMANAGEMENT The company shall disclose what qualitative and quantitative targets it has set itself for its resource efficiency, particularly in the use of renewable energy, for increasing its raw material productivity and for reducing its utilisation of ecosystem services, what measures and strategies it is pursuing to achieve this, how these have been fulfilled or are to be fulfilled in the future, and where it perceives risks. Our goal is to work in a more environmentally friendly way. To achieve this, we have defined targets for the following thematic fields: environment management systems, energy management, water management, waste management and the environmental awareness of our staff. We have specified the planned measures in the “Environment” action field in our annual action plan. Environmental management: Our goal is to systematically record our environmental effects and to continuously improve them. Here, the key measures are: · In 2016, an energy audit was carried out in accordance with DIN EN 16247-1. In the process, the economic efficiency of various energy-saving measures was also calculated, and an implementation programme worked out. · In 2019, the production plants will be checked, and material flow analyses will be carried out with the help of external experts, together with the Efficiency Agency NRW, by means of a maintenance check. Energy management: As an energy-intensive company, our main objectives are to avoid, reduce and compensate for our gas and power con- sumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The key measures for achieving this are: · We procure our electricity, which is partly generated through renewable energy systems, from a regional electricity supplier. At 270 g/kWh, this electricity has a considerably smaller CO 2 footprint than a mix of German electricity providers at 471 g/kWh. · We carried out a lighting conversion from T8 tubes to energy-saving LED tubes. · A CO 2 location balance sheet was for the first time drawn up, with the support of the Efficiency Agency NRW, as of 31.12.2017. · In 2018, we began drawing up CO 2 balance sheets for selected products. · The possibility of converting to green electricity and biogas will be examined in 2018. Waste management: Our goal is to avoid and reduce material consumption and waste. The key measures for achieving this are: · We have reduced our paper consumption through digitisation processes. · Printer cartridges are disposed of through a specialist company in an eco-friendly way, and partly recycled. We use environmentally friendly packaging: our cardboard packaging is made from recycled paper, in accordance with the FSC standard. Water management: The goal is to avoid or reduce water consumption and water pollution. To do this, we apply water-saving technology in the company buildings. Environmental awareness of staff: The goal is to sensitise our staff to the need to treat nature considerately. To achieve this, we train our staff to conduct themselves on an eco-friendly basis, including waste separation. Environmental
